DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
“Our differences make us stronger.”

Celebrating the design principal, “Diversity and Inclusion,” La Tierra Community School appreciates the unique ways in which students learn. Teachers find exciting and interesting ways to present information to the students at school and utilize off-campus outings to create real-life connections to the outside world, making learning meaningful for all students. The Special Education department believes it is beneficial for all students to engage in the peer community and grade-level learning within their classrooms, to the greatest extent possible. Students with exceptional learning needs may also have the opportunity for pull-out support from the Special Education Teacher, a specific Service Provider, or instructional aide, as determined by their individualized education plan.  Learning at La Tierra Community School is individualized for success and celebrates diversity in education!

THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR LEARNING
“I am responsible for my learning and I help others learn.”

The design principle, “The Responsibility for Learning” challenges each student to meet their full potential by taking an active role in their own educational experience. Our special education department strives to facilitate responsibility for learning.  We encourage and support full student participation in service learning, off-campus outings (including overnight trips), projects, and community presentations, all required elements of Expeditionary Learning at La Tierra Community School.

Guiding Questions:
•    Who am I and how do I learn best?
•    How do I celebrate others and myself?
•    What does responsible learning look like, feel like, sounds like?
